Yoga Tap - December 2008

TAKING A BREAK FOR 2-3 WEEKS

December 17th 2008 23:21
Just a message to any regular readers who might wonder if I have stopped writing at Yogatap over the next week or two - to let you know that I am taking a 2-3 week break from writing here, in order to catch up with my paid freelance work and also put some effort into a few chapters of a novel I began earlier in 2008. I plan to be back with regular posts, approx 3PW, from the first or second week of the new year.

Yoga Styles: Ishta Yoga

December 9th 2008 00:45
The Sanskrit translation for the word 'ishta' is individual or personalized. However Ishta Yoga is also an acronym that refers to Integrated Science of Hatha Tantra and Ayurveda (ayur-life & veda-science). Therefore it incorporates physical Asana from the Hatha practices with specific Yogic philosophy and Indian healing. Meditation, Asana, Pranayama and self development are the important aspects of Ishta Yoga practice. It is a suitable practice for any age group, being tailored to the individual body senses and ability of each student.

Ishta Yoga originated in the 1960's when Yogiraj Alan Finger (the son) and Kavi Yogi Mani Finger (the father) integrated several Yogic lineages. Stemming from their South African practice. Ishta Yoga is now popular in both the US and Australia, among other countries

Based on the three 'main' Yoga areas of Asana, Pranayama and Meditation, it also deals with the bandhas. Emphasis is placed on learning to read your body and not pushing it too far.

Breathing time, stability and calmness are major features and the Asanas are performed in synchronization with the breath. For this purpose, elongation of breath is a practiced learning
