October 23rd 2009 14:27
Yoga Booty Ballet is a registered trademark fitness program and is also known as YBB. It combines yoga, booty & ab work, and dance moves in a workout focused on sculpting your body. It was created by Gillian Clark and Teigh McDonough. Gillian dreamt it up in 1998 and decided to release the workout program in video format.

The movements come from a variety of activities, including Kundalini Yoga, ballet, cardio dance, and Hatha Yoga. The aim of YBB is to lose weight and shape up - you won't find the internal spiritual focus, mantras, self improvement, Yogic principles, or chanting found in complete Yoga systems - JUST the workout

Yoga Styles: Yantra-Yoga

October 21st 2009 16:29
Pranayama, meditation, and Asana are included in this Tantric Yoga style stemming from Tibetan Buddhism. It commenced in the 1700's when it was first taught by Vairocana. The aim of this Yoga practice is to create peacefulness and eliminate negative karmic residue.

The word yantra translated from Sanskrit to mean 'restraint'. It can also be translated to mean freedom from bondage if you separate the two root words. Yantra Yoga therefore relates to the release of the individual from Samsara

Yoga Styles: Vinyasa Yoga

October 12th 2009 14:17
Vinyasa Yoga may also be called Vinyasa Flow Yoga or Vinyasa Hatha Yoga. It was originally called Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, but the term Ashtanga has now been dropped from the practice. Vinyasa Yoga is related to Ashtanga Yoga, but is less traditional. The spiritual development comes second place to physical performance, unlike the completeness of traditional Ashtanga classes.

Vinyasa is the term used to describe a style of Yoga that flows between Asanas with a control over the breathing and movements. Vinyasa uses only one breath per move, making it vigorous of pace. Some Vinyasa classes are performed to a background of music

Yoga Styles: Viniyoga

October 9th 2009 15:50
Viniyoga is a gentle form of Hatha Yoga taught by Sri. T. Krishnamacharya and son. AG Mohanand Gary Kraftsow are the best known Western teachers of Viniyoga, where the practice is relatively new. This style recognizes individuality relating to age, experience, attitude and health and is often taught in '1-on-1' situations for this reason. Alternatively, small group classes may occur. The practice expands as practitioners develop. The main focus of this style is to balance the body, breath, and mental functions.

The word Viniyoga translates from Sanskrit to mean separation, detachment, or leaving. It comes from the root word translated to mean to use or employ. Sutra 3.6 of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras refers to this style of Yogic practice. TKV Desikachar, son of Sri. T. Krishnamacharya, once used the term Viniyoga to refer to his teachings of individuality within Yoga, but has since stopped using this term for his teachings

Yoga Styles: Târaka-Yoga

October 2nd 2009 16:28
Taraka-Raja-Yoga is a philosophy based confidential Brahmanical Yoga classification. Secret teachings involved with Taraka Yoga are not transmitted to the general public, only practitioners. There is a strong spiritual and intellectual emphasis, making it far distant from the Yoga workouts simply aimed at getting fit.

Taraka Yoga is reportedly liberation based, working on transcending the mundane and recognizing the inner divinity for the purpose of salvation through the use of meditation techniques. It combines classic Yoga with meditation practices aimed at Samadhi and visualization assistance from the divine
