Yoga Tap - May 2010

No props v package of goodies

May 30th 2010 09:54
One of the ways I differ strongly from many modern practitioners is that I do not use any props. My yoga practice is done in the ancient 'me and ground' format - with not even a yoga mat. I have never used props of any type and for some reason do not even want to consider them.

This is the exact opposite of many modern yoga enthusiasts, who insist on at least a mat if nothing more - though many will gladly use blocks belts water bottles and straps among many assorted items

Patience….

May 28th 2010 04:34
Finally, I am online at home again and therefore able to bring you a more exciting Yoga read than just events lists once again. Yoga practice gave me the patience to exist for 6 months without home internet, reliant upon library access, and hopefully some regular readers will still be around.

Over the next year or two, I hope to list some more personal Yoga-moments, dive into some of the texts from which Yoga stems as well as some modern literature on the subject, and detail a few more Asanas

June events 2

May 24th 2010 08:37
JUNE 2: Karma Index - Measuring real growth at Multifaith Centre, 569 Spadina Ave.
QUOTE: Modern civilizations around the globe use sophisticated indices to make a quantitative assessment of the health of a nation/region’s economy and market. Their hope is to try and predict the future of a sector, industry, organization or nation based on some key indicators. Conventional corporate growth indicators like retention, net profits, and stock market index are now set to meet their match. Recent series of events have started to shape money markets and corporations in ways never seen before. Corporations are beginning to stop and consider the long term impacts of their short term decisions. This thoughtful reflection has spurred an interest in socially responsible investing – a practice that has exploded in recent years and now encompasses about 10 percent of the $24 trillion investment marketplace. Karma – a key indicator driving the long and short term health of an organization or nation – is almost never accounted for. Join us for an evening of intriguing discussion as Devamrita Swami, a monk, author and founder of the Institute of Sustainability, introduces the concept of ‘Karma Index’ to evaluate business decisions and measure real growth in the cosmic market place.

Tibetan Heart Yoga - practice

May 8th 2010 09:28
I found a couple of matters that I have recently noticed whilst practising THY worth sharing.

During the actual main practice, concentrating on the wish to offer special giofts such as joy, wisdom, stillness, etc become the focus of the mind. After the main practice, within life itself, ways of actually doing this often tend to crop up. I wonder if this is only because I have been focussed on these points or if they would be there anyway and I simply would not have noticed them
