Yoga Tap - October 2010

Other Asana - Pyramid pose

October 29th 2010 16:44
Start the pyramid pose, otherwise known as parsvottanasana, by standing up straight. Bend your elbows and move your arms behind your back, holding each elbow in the opposite hand.

As you exhale, step forward with your right foot about 3 feet. Twist your left leg 45 degrees to assist with balance. On your next exhale, lean forward, keeping your back straight, moving from the hips. The most prominent point to feel the stretch is in the back of your right leg. Hold the pose for around a minute before release, and then repeat on the opposite leg.

Other Asana - Sphinx pose

October 20th 2010 16:24
This pose is very similar to the cobra asana - but there is a difference. Begin by lying face down flat on the ground. Stretch both arms directly in front of you along the floor and bend your ankles so that your feet are face down/sole upward. Your arms and legs should be slightly apart, but not sticking out sideways.

Bending your elbows, pull your hands back towards your body. Place your elbows directly below your shoulders, leaving your lower arms flat on the floor. Spreading your fingers, lift your chest from the ground, curving your mid-spine and opening the chest

To do the Stork Pose, stand straight with your arms hanging by your sides. Moving your weight to the left, raise your right heel from the floor by bending the knee. Pulling your knee higher, raise it until your upper leg is horizontal, parallel to the floor. The lower leg should be vertical, with toes pointing downward.

As you inhale, raise both arms until they are extended straight out horizontally in front of you, palms together. The pose should be held for circa one minute prior to returning to the standing position and repeating on the opposite side.

YOGA TEXTS: P.Y.S. 8

October 2nd 2010 15:33
V25 & 26: This then leads us to read the next two verses as meaning that the ‘know mind’ is the seed of omniscience and eternal - another reminder that worldly thinking is unwise and divine wisdom true wisdom. The eternity factor would be one reason that some people believe in a Godly being rather than a personal inner divinity - as it is widely recognized that heavenly beings are eternal and mankind temporary throughout many religions.

V27: ‘The word’ apparently ‘declares’ or ‘expresses’ this state, and a word used for this is the familiar word OM
