CONSTANT CHANGING

February 23rd 2011 17:00
One of the bonuses of an at-home Yoga practice is that you can control the Asanas practiced to suit your mood, ability, outlook, and strength. For example, if you are feeling tired you can extend Savasana and cut a few of the more difficult poses from the routine - or if you are feeling lethargic you can add in a new pose and focus upon practicing to perfect it.

Given that most people have far less dramatic lifestyles than me I can also see the value of sticking to a set routine, but personally I aim to vary my Yoga practice dependant upon each individual day. Having changed country of residence twice, lived with lovers, husbands, sons, parents, and a bunch of friends, having turned vegan from meat-lover, carer from writer from home schooling mom, etc - all mean that my life changes and I can change my Yoga session to fit my current style

EVENTS MID March 2011

February 19th 2011 14:16
MAR 11-13
EVENT: Kripalu weekend Workshop: Breath, Bandhas, and Beyond at Western Massachusetts
QUOTE: The underlying work in your asana practice is supporting the sacred architecture that promotes ease of breath and absorption of prana. Your actions within the postures create the magic valves (bandhas) containing the inner heat to clear the nadis (energetic channels). Rodney and Colleen invite you to a weekend of asana, pranayama, and meditation. Rodney’s strengths are his communication skills, sequencing finesse, and ability to break postures down to their essential elements. Colleen teaches a style of yoga deeply grounded in her Jivamukti roots, incorporating yoga philosophy, bhakti, and meditation. She is known for her devotion to her students, her warmth and sense of humor, as well as her approachability. Join Rodney and Colleen to work, play, and launch your yoga practice beyond the ordinary and into the extraordinary

WHEN I GROW OLD…

February 16th 2011 17:45
When/if I grow old, I sincerely hope that I do not end up like my father and many other people. My father has trouble getting in and out of a chair/bed and he often feels weak and wobbly when standing, even with a stick or walking frame. I have also noticed that he has a very poor posture while standing or sitting.

I try to include asana that will help me maintain full body flexibility and correct posture throughout my entire life. As well as practicing Yoga, I try to sit up straight when in a chair and to stand straight when standing - as I do not want to lose this ability with older age. Additionally, I try not to put too much garbage in my diet and maintain a vegan diet 95% of the time - only skipping on take out night as we do not have a vegan Indian restaurant in town

Ill again….

February 1st 2011 17:47
I have just crawled through 2 colds, a red rash, and a minor flu bug only to walk right into a sinus infection or a second flu attack.

For 1-2 days, I was feeling somewhat sinussy, which is nothing unusual. Then, for 2 days I was absolutely wretched with it. My head was swollen and full and there was a constant drip down my throat causing me to gag and coughing and even vomit. The next 3.5 days I felt dreadful also, though not quite as bad as I had discovered a remedy to keep my throat from getting sore or making me gag/cough - sucking on a piece of raw ginger. After a family outing and 1/2 pint of cider, I began to feel a bit betterand have made a steady recovery in the past couple of days
