Advanced poses: head & shoulderstand variations 2

Somewhat more within my own personal ability would be the range of shoulderstand variations. It is the only asana I seem to have fully mastered in the basic form - on occasion. Although I was far from able to envisage myself being able to perform the asana without support from my arms and hands, and therefore not expecting to be able to raise my arms straight by my sides in shoulderstand, several other variations appealed personally.
The lowering of one alternating straightened leg to the floor would seem to be the next step for me. The Eagle shoulderstand is another possibility. To perform this asana, bend slightly one leg at the knee whilst in shoulderstand. Take the other leg and cross legs at the thigh, with the foot bent underneath the opposing ankle. After holding the pose for a while, straighten the legs and repeat with opposite legs.
Some simpler movements to variate the basic shoulderstand include doing the splits whilst in the pose. I currently attempt this on occasion, although not able to do the splits themselves to perfection, I do not get the pose perfected. Having encountered a 'good day' yesterday, I made the attempt to do a 'hands free' shoulderstand. I was able to stay in position with my arms lowered to the ground out straight, but when attempting to raise them to my sides, found I needed to put them back. At least it is something that I can work on!
