What are the contact details for your Yoga Center?
Healthmoves: Counselling, Hypnotherapy, & Yoga at 2 Stewart Road,
Hurstbridge, VIC 3099. Tel: 039718 1044 or 0407 514 384
What style(s) of Yoga is/are available?
My personal style has evolved over the years from an Iyengar approach to
that of Krishnamacharya, with an element of Satyananda added, and (more
recently) a strong element of DRU yoga.
What classes are currently running?
Tuesday evening 7pm until 8.30pm
Wednesday 6.30pm until 8pm
Thursday 4.45pm until 5.45pm (at Bundoora Extended Care Center)
Friday 9.30am until 10.30am
How long has your establishment been offering Yoga practice to the
community?
I have been teaching in this area since 1990, but only for 3 to 4 years at
my own studio.
On average, how many visitors practice with you each week?
My home classes are limited to 6 people and all were full until quite
recently. However one or two people have moved away recently so I do have
about one vacancy in each class. The Bundoora venue is for staff and closed
to 'outsiders'.
What features/facilities does your Center offer that others do not?
I honestly wouldn't know! I can say that I offer a friendly and supportive
environment for yoga - but then I imagine I wouldn't be unique in that
regard. The fact I only cater for small classes might be an advantage when
compared to the feedback one might expect when participating as part of a
large class. I do like the individualised approach to teaching yoga where
possible.
Does your center offer Yoga instruction in areas other than asana/pranayama?
I am about to offer a meditation class in the DRU style. This would only be
available to reasonably experienced practitioners.
What is/are the cost of a class/series of classes?
$12.50 per hour. I ask for 4 weeks in advance with no refunds save in
exceptional circumstances - such as breaking your leg or a death in the
family or some such. Annual Leave is taken into account.
How long have you been practicing Yoga?
I started in 1969 and qualified as a teacher in 1973. I have been practising
meditation since 1970 and am currently undertaking the DRU Yoga Meditation
Teacher Training course.
What would you say is the most beneficial aspect of Yoga?
It touches everything in your life!
Which is your personal favorite asana?
I mostly have a preference for Vinyasa - my favourites are The Mountain Side
stretch Series - which is partially derived from a Viniyoga source, the
Single-leg Pigeon Pose Series, the Supine Leg-stretch Series, and the Salute
to the 4 Directions - which is from the DRU yoga tradition.
