What style(s) of Yoga is/are available?
Satyananda Yoga - an integral system of yoga that combines asana & pranayama practice, with deep relaxation & meditation. We also promote & encourage other forms of Yoga, such as Karma Yoga, Bhakti, Gyana & so fourth
What classes are currently running?
Wednesday night Foundation Yoga (beginners) 6.30 - 8pm & Thursday night Experienced Yoga 6.30 - 8pm. Sunrise Yoga (6am) & day time general classes are also offered on a regular basis
How long has your establishment been offering Yoga practice to the community?
My husband & I have been teaching together in this region from 2003 until the present day. Prior to that I was teaching regular classes on my own here from 1998 to 2003.
On average, how many visitors practice with you each week?
The number varies from season to season & is dependent on the number of weekly classes that we offer. Between 20 to 50, so lets say 35.
What features/facilities does your Center offer that others do not?
An ambient, relaxing & private studio amidst natural surroundings. A strong emphasis on taking your yoga practice beyond the yoga mat to integrate into your everyday life.
Does your center offer Yoga instruction in areas other than asana/pranayama?
Yes - we offer meditation, deep relaxation (yoga nidra), chanting & kirtan. We also conduct Inner Cleansing mornings twice a year which cover the practices of neti, kunjal & laghoo (from the shatkarma series). A weekend Yoga Retreat is held locally once a year also.
What is/are the cost of a class/series of classes?
We usually offer 3 options (all classes are 1.5hrs). Per class is $15; 5 class passes - $65; or between $10-$12 per class for full term payment, (upfront) for an 8 to 10wk long series.
How long have you been practicing Yoga?
I began practicing Yoga in 1992, completed teacher training in 1993 & moved into an ashram in 1994. In 1998 I resettled in Swan Hill and have been teaching here ever since.
Mayank began to practice yoga in 1996. He undertook studies in a 1yr Yoga Diploma, followed by a MA in Yoga Philosophy at the Yoga University BYB, in Bihar, India. During this time also, and up until 2001 he was a long term resident of the Yoga ashram, Bihar School of Yoga, in India.
In 2003 he moved from India to Australia and since that time we have been running the business together.
What would you say is the most beneficial aspect of Yoga?
Definitely the way Yoga leads you (naturally) towards living a more balanced, harmonious & healthy lifestyle. These benefits extend beyond the individual practitioner & can also be felt & experienced by others, be they family, friends, colleges & so on. Yoga helps spread peace, love & positivity - qualities we all need more of.
Which is your personal favorite asana?
Difficult question, as there are so many beautiful asanas & practices to be found within the treasure trove we refer to as Yoga. As mother to 3 small vibrant yogi's though, the therapeutic/restorative pose of Vipareeta Karani Mudra has been a powerful & invaluable tool for me over these past 5 years. Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) is also a beautiful practice.
