WHEN I GROW OLD…
February 16th 2011 17:45
When/if I grow old, I sincerely hope that I do not end up like my father and many other people. My father has trouble getting in and out of a chair/bed and he often feels weak and wobbly when standing, even with a stick or walking frame. I have also noticed that he has a very poor posture while standing or sitting.
I try to include asana that will help me maintain full body flexibility and correct posture throughout my entire life. As well as practicing Yoga, I try to sit up straight when in a chair and to stand straight when standing - as I do not want to lose this ability with older age. Additionally, I try not to put too much garbage in my diet and maintain a vegan diet 95% of the time - only skipping on take out night as we do not have a vegan Indian restaurant in town.
One thing I find difficult is knowing if my father were to eat a healthy diet, take up chair Yoga, and meditate, then 90% of his problems and complaints would ease or be cured. However, he is stubborn and refuses to have anything to do with Yoga or meditation - and thinks he already has a healthy diet. It is hard to know how to cure someone of their woes, yet remain unable to do so.
