Yoga Styles: Dru Yoga
October 24th 2008 16:06
The word dru comes from the Sanskrit word 'dhruva'. This word relates to the stillness experienced when practicing Dru Yoga. Practice enables the practitioner to abide within the stillness and step away from the busy happenings of life outside. One learns to locate an inner serenity, and therefore obtain mental and emotional clarity.
Dru Yoga is not just a meditational form of Yoga, however. Dru Yoga combines Asana sequences with Pranayama (breathing) practice, Mudras (hand gestures), visualizations, affirmations and relaxation, leading to an inner calmness. The sequences are said to flow, and include 'energy block releases'. Dru Yoga is often linked with the heart Chakra, and is therefore sometimes known as 'Yoga of the heart'.
Benefits reported by practitioners of Dru Yoga include: improved sleep, flexibility and energy levels, along with improvement in those suffering from back and neck pain. Additionally, there are reportedly improvements in stress levels relative to physical, emotional and mental stress.
