Yoga Styles: Ishta Yoga
December 9th 2008 00:45
The Sanskrit translation for the word 'ishta' is individual or personalized. However Ishta Yoga is also an acronym that refers to Integrated Science of Hatha Tantra and Ayurveda (ayur-life & veda-science). Therefore it incorporates physical Asana from the Hatha practices with specific Yogic philosophy and Indian healing. Meditation, Asana, Pranayama and self development are the important aspects of Ishta Yoga practice. It is a suitable practice for any age group, being tailored to the individual body senses and ability of each student.
Ishta Yoga originated in the 1960's when Yogiraj Alan Finger (the son) and Kavi Yogi Mani Finger (the father) integrated several Yogic lineages. Stemming from their South African practice. Ishta Yoga is now popular in both the US and Australia, among other countries.
