KI is a translation of the word QI, or energy. Ki yoga may also be called the Yoga of meaning, because as you stretch and bend you learn why you are doing so. Each movement is explained in regard to the value of its physical, mental and spiritual benefit.
Ki Yoga can be seen as a melding of Indian yoga with Oriental healing. It was founded by Jack Marshall. Ki Yoga mixes the teaching techniques of Masahiro Oki, Andrzej Gospodarczyk, and Shizuto Masunaga. The four principles laid down by Masahiro Oki are belly strength, laughter & smiles, a mental positivity, and gratitude.
Regular Asana are performed with attention to not only physical health, but also the energy channels of the body. Breathing is emphasized. Meditation and relaxation may also be a part of a class, which will be variable rather than repetitive as the seasons and hour of day are taken into account when planning a class.
