Yoga Styles: Nude Aerobics Yoga 1

May 1st 2009 20:13
Nude Aerobics Yoga refers to performing Yoga Asanas without your clothes on. It allows for added flexibility in your motions. Many feel that Yoga is an exercise that brings us towards nature, so should be performed naturally. Also, being naked helps to bring the mind into the present, which may be relevant to your form and purpose of Yoga. Developing an acceptance of the body in its natural state is only one purpose for participation.

As well as allowing a trainer to better see the posture of class members and so lead them to better alignment, other purposes include promoting a sense of openness between participants, overcoming worries pertaining to physical imperfection, the awareness of the natural body, and the development of self esteem. Free sweating is another benefit to Nude Yoga - with the view that clothing can hamper both movement of the limbs and release of impurities.

It is not suited to all cultures and is a form of Yoga bound to bring about attack from certain religions and societies around the world. For some, nudity in the company of others is considered taboo. However, other cultures may view Yoga whilst nude as natural, expressive, or artistic. It is to be noted that Nude Yoga is a different way of performing Yoga practice, and not a playground for those with sexual tendencies hoping to body-watch. Two things you may need to know prior to a first class include that staring at other students is rude and inconsiderate, and it is preferable to take along your own props - usually a mat and towel are all that is needed. Nude Aerobics Yoga generally includes a meditation period, along with an emphasis on Asanas.

Mixed nude Yoga groups may bring about feelings of vulnerability, fear, or self-awareness on the physical level. Concentration on the internal or the external aspects is brought to ones mind. Of benefit, an instructor can observe with precision any misalignments of body during the poses, as the body is not hidden behind layers of cloth that can distort or hide evidence of a wrong posture. The practitioners often feel obliged to concentrate on their inner awareness or personal body stance, as it could be embarrassing to glance about the room in moments of distraction or loose awareness of the pose through self-consciousness.
