Yoga Styles: Pre-natal Yoga 1
May 31st 2009 16:38
Pre-natal Yoga, when done correctly, is not simply a method of lessening the variety of your practice or the exertion of a regular routine, but a way to establish a harmonious energy flow between yourself and the baby, to calm yourself down and relax, and to create moments suited to inner reflection.
“Through practise you can learn to have immediate control of your energy or you can effect a gradual change in your constitutional and habitual energy patterns. You can also affect the way your baby’s energy is working and you can effectively programme a lot of how your baby’s energy system if formed in-utero. We can learn to managing all forms of energy through yoga postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation. These are the tools I teach in every pre-natal yoga class.” - Swami Gurupremananda Saraswati - http://www.tarayoga.net
Pre-natal Yoga classes usually cater to women who have been pregnant for at least 10-12 weeks. Some classes may be offered for mothers-to-be at an earlier stage by some Yoga facilities, but generally the standard commencement is in the second trimester. It is possible that your local Yoga center may also offer classes suited to those trying to conceive, or those who have recently given birth in addition to Pre-natal Yoga classes designed for the second and third tirmesters. Some classes wll start or end with an opportunity for the mothers-to-be to socialise, such as with a chat session or herbal tea and organic snack session post class.
Making Yoga a focal point for all stages of motherhood, from preconception through to post-birth is a great way to enhance your bonding experience with a baby, especially if Yoga is a part of your lifestyle. Pre-natal Yoga classes generally accept participants, whether they are experience or new to Yoga. Many pregnant women discover Yoga when searching for a way to relax and stay healthy after their usualy aerobics and/or jogging have been discarded in the second trimester.
