Pranayama, meditation, and Asana are included in this Tantric Yoga style stemming from Tibetan Buddhism. It commenced in the 1700's when it was first taught by Vairocana. The aim of this Yoga practice is to create peacefulness and eliminate negative karmic residue.
The word yantra translated from Sanskrit to mean 'restraint'. It can also be translated to mean freedom from bondage if you separate the two root words. Yantra Yoga therefore relates to the release of the individual from Samsara.
Practice involves rejuvenation and purification of energies on all levels, physical, mental, and spiritual. The Asanas are flowing and based on movements aimed at healing the spiritual energy. There are 108 moves inclusive of pranayama and mantras. There are 8 main movements concerning the breathwork. Asanas are given in fives sets of five moves.
