Yoga thoughts - 5 - fasting
May 17th 2011 15:43
When investigating the Yogic diet and lifestyle, I came across several references to fasting and first ‘tried it out’. At one point, a few years ago, I fasted weekly on each Friday. Since moving overseas to take care of my father, I seemed to have given up this habit, however.
The last time I fasted was Vesak 2010 - and here we are at Vesak 2011, already. It is time for another 36 hour fast.
Being already 4-30pm, I am amazed that I am not even hungry yet as I have been without food since 7pm last night. Normally, I would feel some ‘peckishness’ feelings by now. Maybe I have a busier life now or maybe I have learned to ignore my taste buds and thinking mind enough for them to have given up nagging!
Remembering that short-fasts do not leave me with less energy, but often with more is something I ought to keep in mind! Maybe I should get back into fasting on a more regular basis - monthly, if not weekly. Seeing the effects of over indulgence vividly in my father perhaps helps confirm this to be a good idea.
